My Favorite Ghibli Movies in No Particular Order By: Kyra

Ever since I was a kid, I really liked Studio Ghibli movies! Here are some of my favorites! 😄

Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind

This story takes place far in the future, in a dystopian society. A previous war has contaminated & poisoned the environment, so the few surviving humans live in a dangerous jungle. Nausicaä, an independent girl works to restore the earth’s ecosystem and bring back peace to Earth. This movie is one of my favorites because it has such an interesting and unique plot, with important themes of life. The art is also beautiful, as always.

Castle in the Sky

Sheeta (an orphan) and her kidnapper Muska, are flying in a blimp when they are intercepted by a gang of air pirates led by Dola. Sheeta escapes from a mid-air collision through a magic crystal. Then, she meets fellow orphan Pazu, and they join forces to discover the floating city of Laputa while pursued by both Muska and the pirates, who want the city's treasures. This movie is one of my favorites because it has a very action filled plot and the art is very well done. I also really like the fox squirrels <3.

My Neighbor Totoro

Satsuki and her younger sister, Mei, settle into an old country house with their father and wait for their mother to recover from an illness. When the sisters are exploring their new home, they find and become friends with playful spirits in their house and the nearby forest, including the giant furry creature called Totoro. This is one of my favorite movies because it has such a heartwarming plot, the art is so colorful, and the food looks delicious. The trio of totoros are so cute, too.

Kiki's Delivery Service

A young witch named Kiki moves with her talking cat to a seaside town. She will spend a year alone, because of her village's tradition for witches in training. After learning to control her broomstick, Kiki begins a delivery service and soon becomes a part of the community. However, when she begins to doubt herself, she loses her magic abilities, so she must overcome her self-doubt to get her powers back. I love this movie because the art is so pretty, and I really like Kiki’s cat. The food looks so delicious too!

Spirited Away

In this movie, a 10-year old girl named Chihiro wanders into the spirit realm after her family's car breaks down in a forest. In the world of magic, she must work at a bathhouse to save her parents, who are turned into pigs by the owner, an evil witch named Yubaba. Along the way, Chihiro meets many cool characters who help her meet her goal. This is one of my favorite movies because I like the facial expressions on the characters, it has an engaging plot, and I really like the way the colors were used.

Howl's Moving Castle

Sophie has a boring life at her hat shop, but all that changes when she befriends wizard Howl, who lives in a flying castle. However, the evil Witch of Waste takes casts a spell on young Sophie, which ages her horribly. Now Howl must use all his magical talents to battle the hag and return Sophie to her former youth. This is one of my favorite movies because of how the characters develop, the way the colors were used, and the scenery.
